These Rainy Day Ideas Will Make You Forget About the Weather Outside
It’s inevitable – at some point during your time at university, you’re going to experience one of those dreary, melancholy rainy days that make you feel trapped inside your dorm room. If you live in Ontario in particular, you’ve probably noticed how much rain this summer has brought, and you’re bound to get more showers soon. But it’s not all bad! These rainy day ideas will make you forget it’s raining because you’ll be having too much fun right in your dorm!
It’s Raining, It’s Pouring, But it Doesn’t Have to be Boring!
Just because it’s soaking wet outside doesn’t mean that you’re going to be stuck cooped up inside your residence building. While you might not be able to go out, you can have tons of fun right there in the comfort of your building. Be prepared to have fun when it’s raining outside with these 7 fun rainy day dorm ideas.
1. Get Crafty
When is the last time you sat down and actually made some crafts? Gather whatever craft materials you can find, then surf the internet to find some cool things to make. For example, HGTV has a list of dorm room decor ideas you could try out. You could create some cool decorations for your room, or make a gift to give to someone special. There are tons of options!
2. Try Some YouTube Workouts
This is super fun if you get a bunch of your friends or floormates together to try out some YouTube workout videos. Laugh together as you attempt to reconstruct the yoga positions, or make friendly competitions to see who can do the most sit-ups.
3. Play Hide and Seek
This is one to relive your childhood. For this idea, you’ll need the participation of your whole floor, or at least half of it. Get everyone together and designate a few dorm rooms to be official hiding rooms, and prop those doors open. Then, take turns picking someone to be the seeker while everyone plays a big, floor-wide game of hide and seek.
4. Do a Games Night
It’s guaranteed that at least a few people brought board games with them to residence. Get everyone together and gather up what games you have available and spend your night seeing who can rack up the most wins in the most games. You could even break off into teams.
5. Host a Movie Marathon
Most residence buildings have common student rooms where you can throw some movies on the television and gather around. This is the perfect place to host a movie marathon. The only tough point with this idea is that not everyone is going to agree on movie choices. However, you can collectively pick a genre that everyone agrees on, or go by which movies have the most votes by a show of hands. Depending on how big your group is, you could also just let each person suggest one movie that everyone has to watch.
6. Build a Giant Blanket Fort
Get as many people on your floor involved with this one as you can. Everyone should gather up their blankets and other fort-building items and head to the student lounge or common room on your floor or in your building. There, start building the best and biggest blanket fort you’ve ever made.
7. Rearrange the Furniture
Give your dorm room a little bit of fengshui to motivate you and give you a new, updated view on your day-to-day life. This will only work depending on how much space you have and what style dorm you live in, as sometimes this can be pretty limiting. However, even a re-decorating of the room can really help you get a fresh mindset on life.
Sometimes rain can completely wash away your motivation to get your coursework done. Did you get carried away with these fun rainy day activities and forget to finish your homework?
